What factors affect my ability to see the moon during the day?

I have noticed that I can see the moon during the day sometimes, but not all the time. What factors are at work here? The season? The time of day?

Just a guess, but I'd say the light - In order to see the Moon, it must reflect more light than the particles of air in the atmosphere between the observer and the Moon.
In day-light there's a lot of light to mask the Moon.
